Experience is the best teacher
My parent said "the only way to succeed in life is to get a good education", that is right, but I have another one for you "Experience is the best teacher". It tells me that learning knowledge is not the only way to study, but with experience, the knowledge learned is used.
The gains are not only hands-on experience, but I am also exposed to what is expected for me in the future. It also enables me to set my own goals higher and make contacts with business professionals who may assist me in my career search upon graduation.
We gain knowledge in different ways. We gain it from books or by doing something. What we learn through experience is more lasting than that acquired through reading. It is accurate, complete and permanent. From reading, I think it just gave me the basic knowledge while other skills are gained from my experience like the freelance job, doing the personal artwork, tutorial, practical training and others.
From the experiences like the freelance job, I learn how to handle clients, how to manage my time on studies, and quoting the price for jobs and unconsciously I can gain more knowledge and improve my skills step by step and get better than before.
These experiences will teach me how to solve problems in the aspect of creating designs. My philosophy has always been to first make things smart and then make them pretty. Then, the next important thing is, how you use the knowledge that you learn. I think it encourages designers like me to learn new things and create new things, not just studying books to get the knowledge and experiences. I would like to say that I just like to create things that are positive and make people feel good or gain a sense of wonder, dreaminess or drawings and illustrations that evoke a refined childlike approach to sketching with your imagination.
